Some folks will put your name on a brick.
We offer to put your name on something much bigger and more significant: A research quadrat, a 65-foot by 65-foot area the size of a suburban lot, where every stem bigger than a pencil is measured, identified and precisely mapped.
And 25 of those quadrats is a hectare of research, an area the size of two and a half football fields, where the fate of every tree will be followed for half a century.
And 60 hectares will get you 150 acres of groundbreaking research in the largest and most diverse forest lab of its kind in North America, supporting almost 100,0000 trees and some 100 woody species.
We’re a three fourths of the way there, but we need your help, a quadrat or a hectare at a time. Put your name on one, and we’ll make sure your donation is honored for –at least! — the half century this forest dynamics program continues. We’ll post your quadrat or hectare on our website, we’ll hang it on our quadrat canvas at Paint Rock Research Center, and we’ll let you know precisely what we found in your quadrat or hectare
Your named quadrats will do more than support the census. You’ll have the satisfaction of knowing that your quadrat ensured the training, housing and financial support of a new and diverse generation of students on our campus. Your quadrat will provide a new window on how forests assemble, how they survived in the past, and how they’ll survive the many changes of the future. And every quadrat with your name on it will leverage an equal amount of matching dollars.
